Choose the right timer for your offer

Compare fixed-date, evergreen, daily and recurring timers with concrete examples.

One deadline for everyone: Fixed date

Choose Fixed date for a webinar registration cutoff, product launch or store sale ending at a specific moment. Everyone counts down toward the same end date, regardless of when they first see the timer.

Example: your sale ends on 31 October at 23:59 in America/Toronto. A customer elsewhere may see the timer at a different local hour, but the remaining duration points to the same instant.

One window per visitor: Evergreen

Choose Evergreen when each identified visitor or recipient should receive a duration such as 60 minutes or 48 hours. The window begins according to the configured start policy, not necessarily when your email was sent.

Evergreen depends on a stable identity. Use a unique, opaque recipient identifier for email and preserve it when the person moves to a website or smart link. A shared identifier turns separate recipients into the same countdown window.

Repeated deadlines: Daily and Recurring

Daily is useful for an offer that closes at a set local time each day. The rule calculates the relevant daily window in the campaign timezone rather than behaving like a one-time sale.

Recurring is for selected weekdays with a start and end time, such as Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00. Outside the active window the timer follows its waiting/closed behavior. The end time must be after the start time; a single overnight window is not accepted by this setup form.

A decision checklist

  • Does everyone lose access at the same instant? Use Fixed date.
  • Does each person get their own amount of time? Use Evergreen and plan identity handoff.
  • Does the promotion restart each day? Use Daily.
  • Does the promotion open only on selected weekdays and hours? Use Recurring.
  • Do you need to enforce a checkout rule? Configure that rule in your store as well; choosing a timer type alone does not restrict purchases.
